Community Circles | Circulos Comunitarios

Community Circles encourage community engagement, build leadership capacity and organize for positive change in the Latino community through connecting people to each other, resources, education and training. Community Circles consist of weekly discussion and action circles where Latino community members get to know each other, learn about resources available in the Twin Cities, and organize for positive change.

Each Community Circle is focused on a theme chosen by La Conexión participants such as “Family,” “Community,” “Immigration,” “Health,” “Leadership,” and “Education.” Over a three month period, participants will meet together weekly to get to know each other, share resources, and receive theme-related and leadership training. Using their newly gained knowledge and resources, participants will design and implement a “Community Action” project to engage the larger community in the circle’s theme.

To determine the topic for our pilot circle, we conducted a survey based on community interest to include over 100 members of the Latino community. The results were two main interest areas: Immigration and Health & Wellbeing. Top areas of interest within those categories included: Human Rights and Changes in U.S. Immigration policy and Mental Health and Access to Health Insurance. We are currently conducting two focus groups within the Latino Community to gather input and determine which topic will be the focus of our first Community Circle. We expect to begin our Pilot Circle by mid-November.
