Programs
Spanish Language and Cultural Classes | Clases de Espanol y Cultura
Our Spanish Classes are characterized by small class sizes, experienced native Spanish-speaking instructors, competitive pricing, and our integration of current events and social justice themes in Latin America. Teaching the Spanish language to the general public is one more step toward creating a more inclusive society, respecting of diversity. At the same time, the program is our single greatest source of income.
Intercambio Language and Culture Exchange | Intercambios Culturales
Weekly facilitated discussions between native Spanish and English speakers led by skilled instructors help individuals improve their language skills while learning about important cultural and social topics in our hemisphere. Intercambios are an equal sharing between cultures, with half of the session held in English and the other half in Spanish. We are working to create new lines of communication and support networks between people of different cultures.
Kitchen Connection | La Conexión en la Cocina
Each Saturday at noon, our various program participants (Spanish and English speakers alike), a visiting group, the organizer, and volunteer facilitators come together in the kitchen to cook a meal together; connecting people and through cooking and conversation!
Coffee Hours | Horas de Cafe
We bring the community together for enlightening weekly discussions and periodic screenings of films, touching on important socio-political topics related to the interconnected relationship of the United States and Latin-America. In any given year we host dozens of organizations and informal groups involved in human rights and cross-cultural capacity building. These events make the Resource Center an important connecting hub between organizations and individuals, and catalyst of community organizing activity in the Twin Cities.
Resource Center | Centro de Referencias
We work one-on-one to address areas of stress and crisis, offering guidance services on-site, and connecting participants to other existing resources in the community.
Community Circles | Circulos Comunitarios
We create a unique space for community members to foster community, education, and leadership around issues that are relevant to them.
Latino Voices | Voces Latinas
We aim to deepen understanding of hemispheric forces that lead to discrimination and exploitation of people, and provide encouragement and tools for groups to initiate work to improve our systems and policies. Immigrant and non-immigrant Latinos speakers or panelists share personal stories in the context of economic and social forces that lead to migration or immigration. We strive to enhance knowledge of the “push” and “pull” forces that cause people to uproot or divide their family, we share the successes and contributions of our immigrant neighbors, and we reveal the exploitation or loss of hope that may sometimes occur when people are forced to live and work in the shadows.
Financial Achievement Program | Programas Financieros
Our Financial Achievement Programs, including Financial Literacy, Entrepreneurial Development and Financial Support Services connects low-income community members with tools and knowledge to maintain financially healthy households and start small businesses. Since 2008 we have helped launch 20 new businesses, 15 of them still operating today.
Curricula for Educators and Study Groups
Books, study guides and videos designed to help educators and study groups to learn about Latin-America and globalization.
Weekly Event Newsletter | Boletin Semanal de Eventos
Our once-a-week email newsletter covers, in an easy to read indexed format, the “best of” Twin Cities Latino/a and Latin-America information and events.
