La Conexion is proud to announce the showing of the Chilean film: Machuca
7:00 PM on October 20
For our film journey we have been all around Latin America, from Mexico to Argentina, and even outside Latin America, to the United States as well as Spain. Our last film in the series, our eighth film, is one from Chile entitled Machuca, and is set during Salvador Allende’s short, ill-fated presidency.
In this film two boys from different economic classes break tradition and culture, and endanger themselves as they strike up an unlikely friendship at a boarding school at the behest of the progressive and forward thinking headmaster priest. One boy is poor and raised in a slum, the son of a proud socialist mother; the other boy is raised in a liberal-bourgeois family.
As both boys become friends, Gonzalo, the wealthy boy, comes to sympathize with the poor, and with his friend Machuca, even as his family, fearful of the growing socialist movement, is plotting to overthrow Allende.
The film is NR, not rated.
There is no admission charge, but free-will donations are welcome!
