La Conexion is proud to present its next installment in its 8 Latin American film series: Even the Rain.
In the first three movies we have remained in North America, but with this film we move both to South America into Bolivia, and across the Atlantic to Spain, as Even the Rain is a Spanish/Bolivian production.
In this fascinating take at contemporary politics a Spanish film crew goes to the Cochabamba region of Bolivia to shoot a movie about Christopher Columbus’ treatment of Native Americans at the time. They go to Cochabamba because of the film’s small budget and they hope to get actors and extras cheaply. However, the film crew arrives at a tense time as there are protests over the privatization of Cochabamba’s water supplies, and things get worse for the crew as one of the actors is a leader in the protests and subsequent riots.
An amazing movie it is a film of a film, and all the more interesting because of the importance of the subject of the film, as well as the way the director chose to deal with the subject. Additionally, the present of the film mirrors its past, as Christopher Columbus took advantage of the Native Americans, exploiting them for the material resources they could provide. This is similar to the context within which the film crew works; as they are on a budget they exploit the natives….
There is no admission charge, but free-will donations are welcome!
