Description
You will hear from a delegation coordinator/chaperon and some of the youth who have experienced a unique model for youth cultural exchange trips abroad, in which the youth from Minnesota fund raise to bring their host siblings to Minneapolis the year after they go to Leon, Nicaragua. Youth Cultural Exchange (YCE), a program of the First Universalist Church, has collaborated with Project Minnesota-Leon (PML) four times to bring over 30 Minnesota and Nicaraguan youth together in 2 week homestays in both countries.
Biography
Deborah Allen has been involved with three rounds of PML/YCE exchanges to Leon, Nicaragua and has chaperoned trips twice. Her two children, ages 16 and 19, have returned to Leon each year to visit their host families and volunteer since they first went to Nicaragua at age 13.
