Movie Night: Saving The Seed - 7/29
Movie Night: Saving the Seed
At the Resource Center of The Americas
7-10PM Thursday 7-29
Description:
Coast to Coast Food (Bi)Cycle Tour: Food Sovereignty as a Tool for Reducing Financial Inequity
Vancouver’s Global Agents for Change is biking from Portland OR to Boston MA. The group will be stopping in Minneapolis to co-host a movie and discussion night. They are fundraising $20,200 for a food sovereignty project in the Tomoyo Region of Bolivia where 89% of the population lives in extreme poverty. By biking from coast-to-coast they aim to celebrate the importance of a localized food system from soil to waste. One way to get the discussion going is to watch a movie about the success of a food sovereignty project in Honduras. The film is called Saving the Seed made on the behalf of Unitarian Service Committee. After the short film, the group will lead a discussion about the film. Some discussion topics may include local food as an act of solidarity, voting with your fork, anti-capitalism living in North American society, and independent news as a platform for increasing food independence in the Twin Cities. The evening will remain focused on the positives and will frame the talks in a local context. Coffee and muffins will be provided.
